Here are the instructions, guidelines and grade breakdown for the final paper assignment.


  • For the course final paper, students will choose ONE topic from the list below, research the topic, and complete a four-page paper on the topic. The paper topics each cover a very broad area of figure skating, and this is done intentionally so that students may take their preferred stance on the topic, or choose to look at the topic in a way that is interesting to them. Students will not be graded on their position/perspective taken on the topic, only on the content of the paper, it’s accuracy and demonstration of a thorough understanding of the topic.
  • Students will have four weeks to complete the paper.
  • Students are expected to follow the university guidelines for academic integrity and plagiarism. All papers will be checked across the databases for plagiarism. Figure Skating Research Final Paper

Due Date and Submission Information

  • The paper is due on the last of classes of the semester, May 6th, 2020 at 11:59 pm. Students can submit their papers anytime before the due date, however, per the class policies, no late assignments will be accepted.
  • For submission, papers MUST be submitted in .doc or .docx format (pages files, .pdf files, text box submissions on compass, comments on compass etc. will not be accepted) Assignments submitted in the wrong file format will not be graded.

  • Masculinity in Figure Skating
  • The History of / Major Changes in Olympic Figure Skating
  • Evolution of Women’s Sports – Specifically Figure Skating
  • Body Image in Figure Skating


  • The Final Paper must be a minimum of four (4) pages.
  • The paper should be written in Times New Roman, 12pt font, double spaced with 1″ margins.
  • All non-original thoughts should be credited appropriately to the original author
    • All citations and references should use APA Formatting
      • Resources for APA formatting can be found at this link
  • Students may use direct quotes in their papers, however, direct quotes should not comprise more than one half (.5) page of the final paper in total.
    • Any direct quotes used beyond the allotted page amount will not count towards the overall page count.
